Wellfield Botanic Gardens
On Tuesday, July 15, a group of 9 colleagues went to Wellfield Botanic Gardens for a tour with Kyle Strain. Kyle is a Cora Dale House member who also works at the Gardens. The new construction that happened during our visit last year has been completed. Now they have a fancy new welcome center, and the gardens are beautiful. There were many different types of native and non-native plants. Some interesting finds included the carnivorous plants, the sensory garden, and the Japa

Independence Day
On July 4th, the Clubhouse celebrated Independence Day. The event was open to friends and family, so we were able to meet each others' loved ones. Mama D made a delicious moist banana bread without cinnamon so that more people could eat it. There were people all around the Clubhouse completing different tasks as we were getting ready to eat. One cluster of people were on the grill cooking the hot dogs and chicken while another group chatted on the front porch and another play

Member Spotlight: Sean McGoff
Sean McGoff has been a colleague here at Cora Dale House since September of 2023. Sean moved to Indiana from Pittsburgh. He heard about Cora Dale House from his probation officer and decided to attend. Sean likes that at Clubhouse, he can have a space to calm down, given that everything else is noisy. He enjoys being a part of the community. He says people are there for each other when needed, and he feels free to be himself. He enjoys helping by cleaning the bathroom. Clubho

Ruth Smith’s Sweet Treats
Ruth Smith, Wesley Smith’s mom, enjoys baking sweet treats for Cora Dale House and others. She began baking as a teenager, as they did not have a lot of sweets at home. She was one of six children, and when they wanted sweets they would bake cookies, because they were the easiest to make. She made her first pie after getting married. She received compliments and felt affirmed knowing people liked them and felt like, “Yes! Maybe I can do this!” Now she says she doesn’t need a

Employment Dinner
On the evening of May 27, colleagues gathered for our first employment dinner of the year. This meal is a way to honor those who are employed, have a history of employment, or are interested in employment. In celebrating and appreciating the members, we hope to boost morale and create a positive working experience. In celebration, the staff also attend to the members’ needs during the dinner. We provide a three-course meal—a salad as a starter, pork tenderloins with asparagus

HippoSonics Concert
On Friday, May 23, the Clubhouse traveled to Warsaw for a free summer concert. The band playing was called HippoSonics, an electrifying pop and classic rock band that did covers of various songs from the 80s and 90s. Delilah would listen to the band again and even recommend to others that enjoy this type of music. Although the sun was out, the air was a crispy chill. People had brought their sweaters and blankets to acclimate. A few kept warm by dancing to the music. Many of

Murder Mystery
It was a cold Saturday evening when colleagues began to arrive at the Cora Dale house. Upon arrival, each participant was assigned a character—from a famous concert violinist up to the wife of the murdered. Each character drew a number. The last one had an X, which signified they were the murderer. To set us up, we read the story line—the Lord of the Manor, Heathcliff, had been murdered by one of his guests. Not wanting to be accused, the guest has to investigate who had done

Member Spotlight: Donna Anderson
Donna Anderson has been a valued member of the Clubhouse for about 12 years. She was introduced to the Clubhouse through David George and Brian Martin, who she met at NAMI and DBSA meetings. One of Donna's favorite ways to get involved is by organizing the clothing closet, as she enjoys bringing order to the space. She

Historic Restoration Work
Clubhouse colleagues, especially the smokers who want out of the rain, are eager to know when smoking may restart on the back porch. We project this date to be June 1st. The scope of the project includes very skilled work done by Dana Miller Building Solutions LLC. The porch will be restored to its original materials and style, plus conserving the slate roof. The second phase of construction entails sealing doors and windows, insulating the building, and installing two heat p

Goodbye Lydia
As her time at the clubhouse comes to an end, she leaves with a heart full of gratitude and reflection. What began as a new and slightly overwhelming experience soon turned into a journey of connection, healing, and community. One of her favorite experiences was participating in the walking group. She loved being able to step outside, enjoy the fresh air, and share conversations with others who joined. It wasn't just about getting exercise—it was about creating space for conn
